The hair list at V&F Beauty Lounge runs from a child's haircut to a full head of extensions. A Children Cut is from £15, a Wash, Cut & Blow Dry is £50, Half Head Highlights are £80, and Full Head Extensions are priced at a consultation. It all happens in the salon at 142 London Road in Headington, Oxford.
A cut and blow dry is easy to price. Colour and extensions are harder, because hair varies so much from one person to the next. Where the list says from, we give you a starting price, look at your hair properly, and agree the real figure before anything is mixed. Extensions are quoted once we have seen your hair. Nobody wants a surprise at the till.
Cuts, styling and the everyday things
A Wash, Cut & Blow Dry is £50. A Children Cut is from £15. Hair Style is from £35 for when you want your hair styled rather than cut, and Party Make-up is from £70 if you would like both done before an evening out.
Every hair service sits in a standard 30 minute slot in the diary. Treat that as the booking unit rather than the length of your appointment. Colour, keratin, smoothing and extensions need a good deal longer, so tell us what you are after when you ring and we will set aside the right amount of time.
The number is 01865 741333. We are open Monday to Saturday from 10:00 to 18:30, and on Sunday from 11:00 to 16:00, when 15:30 is the last appointment of the day.
Highlights, colour and why some prices are a starting point
Full Head Highlights are from £150 and Three Quarter Highlights are from £50. Half Head Highlights are £80, T-Section Highlights are £70 and Balayage is £100. Root Colour and Toner are each from £30. Where a price says from, it is an honest starting price, not a final bill. What the work actually costs depends on how long and how thick your hair is, what colour it is now, and what has been on it before. Long or very dense hair takes more product and more time, and that shows up in the price.
So we look first. You come in, we talk about what you want, we check the condition of the hair and what history it has, and then you get a figure. If that figure is more than you want to spend, we will tell you what can be done within your budget instead. You are free to leave it there and think about it.
A skin test is needed before your first colour appointment with us, highlights included. That is standard practice across the trade and we do not skip it. Ring ahead and we will get it done in good time, rather than having to turn you away on the day.
Going lighter when your hair has been coloured before
Lightening hair that has already been coloured, bleached or dyed at home is the part of the job that needs the most care. Colour has to be lifted out of the hair, and lifting takes a toll on it. Pushed too far in one sitting, the result is breakage and a texture nobody enjoys living with.
Sometimes that means more than one appointment. We take the hair as far as it will safely go, let it rest, and finish the job on a second visit. We would far rather say that at the consultation than promise you one afternoon and hand back hair we have damaged getting there.
Keratin and smoothing
Brazilian Keratin is £200 and Permanent Smoothing is £250. Both are for hair that is frizzy or hard to manage, and both make drying it at home quicker. Which one suits you comes down to your hair and what you want from it, so this is another conversation to have before you book rather than after.
Results vary. Coarse, thick hair behaves differently to fine hair, and how long the effect holds depends on your hair and how you look after it. Neither service changes what grows in next. New growth comes through in its own natural texture, which is why smoothing is something people come back for rather than a one off.
We will tell you on the day how long to leave your hair before the first wash, because that depends on what has been used.
Extensions, priced at a consultation
We fit Full Head Extensions, which add length and thickness all over. They suit fine hair, or anyone who wants a real change in length. They cannot be booked online. The price is agreed at a consultation once we have seen your hair and talked about the length you want, so ring 01865 741333 and we will find a time.
Extensions are not fit and forget. As your own hair grows, the attachment points travel down away from the roots, and how quickly that happens comes down to how fast your hair grows. Ask at the consultation what looking after your set involves and what to expect as it grows out.
Colour matching and the method used are both settled at the consultation. Bring a photo if you have one in mind. It saves a lot of describing.
Treatments for dry hair and tired scalps
There are a few treatments on the list for hair that feels dry, dull or over processed. A Hair Spa is £45 and a Hair Power Dose Treatment is £60. For a flaky scalp there is a Dandruff Treatment, also £60.
These are salon conditioning treatments. They feel good, they leave hair in better condition, and that is the whole of the claim. They are not medicine and we will not pretend otherwise. If your scalp is sore, broken or simply not settling down, see a pharmacist or your GP rather than booking a treatment for it.
